In today’s lecture, we were introduced to the brief for the 103 module. The aim of this project is for us to create a rebrand for Libraries NI.
Instantly, I felt very excited about this brief, due to my interest in branding and began my research by visiting the official Libraries NI website and looking at what the current branding looks like, as well as what amenities and resources the library provides to best highlight them in my rebrand.
Upon entering the website, I immediately felt that it was dated, the colour scheme as well as the logo heavily remind me of the design trends in the 2010’s, it definitely feels quite basic or unpolished and does not reflect any recent design trends in my opinion.
The current design also doesn’t communicate anything about the current brand ideology and values through the colour scheme, typography or graphics.
However, further looking into the website, I got reminded of the huge array of resources and events Libraries NI hosts. These events range from educational, community-based or child-focused. I also found out that Libraries NI hosts many resources that benefit everyone, such as internet access, printer/photocopier access, and simply being a universally accessible free indoor space for the local community.
This aspect of the libraries NI brand is something I would really like to highlight somehow in my rebrand.
