For our first project of 101, we were tasked with researching the point line and plane, which are basic elements of design and designing 5 frame design corresponding to the words given for each element. My initial research on each element is covered in these weekly pages.
Week 1: Point, Line, and Plane
Week 2: Line, Plane and the Golden Ratio
In this project, I wanted to give examples of showing data through point, plane and line, but also showing them in more creative and light-hearted ways, also to explore what I could do with these elements.
Here, I will delve into specific inspirations for each word-inspired design I’ve chosen and my thoughts on the final results

For one of the point word prompts, I chose disperse, and while thinking on what I could do with that, i got reminded of visualisations of COVID/general illness I saw on news outlets a while ago.
Since during our lectures there was a huge emphasis on conveying statistics or information using these simple elements, I decided this would be the perfect inspiration for the word disperse.
I decided to do a 5 frame progressive spread of the dots as seen in the maps below, and I feel even though it has sad connotations, I ended up with a fairly visually pleasing design.

The second prompt for point I chose was dominant, while this could have many interpretations, my mind went to the imagery of a predator attacking prey.
In this 5 frame layout I wanted to show a progressive approach of the “predator” or large circle into a gathering of smaller dots or “prey” resulting in them scattering and the large dot gaining dominance over the space resulting in only it on the final frame.
